There had been the frigidarium of the Roman baths, but closer to us, aesthetic centers offered treatments based on cold. Many devices have existed, ranging from the simplest to the most complicated such as the Frotox. Although it’s not new, the cold is making a strong comeback in the midst of global warming!
The novelty of the moment: hyper-advanced technologies that exploit the qualities of the cold and promise aesthetic effects and an improvement in well-being.

The Cosmétothèque had also already been interested in these questions in a contribution that you can read again : https://cosmeticobs.com/fr/articles/produits-38/le-froid-et-son-utilisation-en-beaute-4586?page=3. In this contribution we talked about many effects related to cold but more specifically about the “chill effect” that many seem to have forgotten. It concerns slimming products and the fight against cellulite and obesity. The idea is to use a particular property of adipose tissue, this effect allowing to hope to transform white body fat into brown fat. Their functions are significantly different. White is one form of storage, the other, brown adipose tissue or brown fat whose function is energetic: it is not stored. However, the cold favors this transition from white to brown. This is therefore called the “thrill effect”.
We also told the story of this cold cream called Ice Source™, developed on the basis of technology used in space to produce cold. It seems that Mercedes has been inspired by space technologies to develop its new Formula 1. The product and everything that went with it disappeared! Too soon, too bad!
Recently, recent news reminds us that these practices make sense. First of all, it is the young French start-up Beautygloo, present at CES 2022 in Las Vegas, which presented as an extension of its box to keep products cold, a device to refrigerate instantly. At CES 2022, Beautigloo previewed this instant cooler. Thanks to the presence of interchangeable modules, it can cool in less than five minutes massage tools and cosmetics such as face masks, thus benefiting from ultimate freshness during application. Designed with the support of renowned experts, this patented product will be available by the end of the year.
But, very recent information, the arrival of frozen cosmetics. We are told (CO. RE. LAB) 100% natural ingredients (and still secret!) would be the least of things, without preservatives and with the least polluting packaging. We are also told that the process is energy intensive but the formulation will be long shelf life (at least 3 to 5 years instead of 3 to 12 months today!). There was already Freedge Beauty (https://www.freedgebeauty.com/) a cosmetic range made from fresh fruits and vegetables, but this would be an additional degree.
