“I’m talking to you about a time that under 20s can’t know.” So begins a famous French song. Expanscience brilliantly reminds us of this.
Indeed, this organization celebrates its 7O spring and we are told: Expanscience 70 ans
In a recent series that tells us about the brands history and more particularly of family brands, we are told
how, on the basis of several intuitions, one of the brands of this organization will establish itself in a difficult market, based on intuitions and marketing choices.
But beyond these questions, there are also choices which, on a scientific and technical level, have strongly influenced the history of the organization. To understand this, we have to go back to the 1950s and more particularly to the work of Henri THIERS, a French dermatologist from Lyon who will strongly mark French cosmetics, by the impact of unsaponifiable fractions of vegetable oils on the skin but not only. These works were very original for the time. The founders will have the intuition that this work was important and they will catch this axis as a credo for research and scientific promotion. From there will come a whole series of products in different fields of application which will all bring significant advances.
In the cosmetics sector, the Mustela brand will be created, a range of cosmetic products for babies and young mothers. In the 1950s it was a real novelty. The brand has become a cult brand in its field.
In the pharmaceutical field, the field of experimentation will be that of inflammatory diseases, with a major contribution Piascledine®
In the area of ingredients, unsaponifiables will be used by the group’s own brands, but also for a certain time distributed is used by many cosmetic brands. This activity, long dormant and reserved for internal uses, has resumed with quite remarkable liveliness and agility, with products such as Passioline®. Since then, other ingredients have come to complete the catalog of specialties.
The organization also follows a development perfectly integrated in its time, with a very strong will on the societal and environmental plan.
Bravo to Expanscience, happy birthday and long life.
